Bangladesh Govt Gives One-Year Deadline to Private Universities. Recently Bangladesh Government has given the Important Notice for Private Universities in Bangladesh.
Campus News:
Bangladesh government has again given a one-year deadline to the private universities which have failed to meet conditions like moving to permanent campuses.
“We’ll take the next decision after further considerations”, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said on Thursday after a meeting with private universities.
The education ministry of Bangladesh had fixed Sept 15 for the private universities, operating for seven years, to relocate to their own campuses.
The education ministry in mid-January this year has given a one-year ultimatum to the private universities functioning for less than seven years to move to their own campuses.
Currently, there are 91 private universities in the country. Of them, 37 are operating for less than seven years, said sources at University Grants Commission.
The minister said if the conditions set out in the act went unmet; the authorities of the universities would not be allowed to enroll new students after the one-year deadline ended.
The government established public universities and approved many private universities to meet the demand of higher education, the minister said.
Despite the issuing of repeated deadlines, only 17 universities have so far shifted to their own campuses, a basic condition stipulated in the act.
