It is state-run and public. The university has a school and a centre. It has established institutes that provide courses leading to M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees.The Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences (IHS) was introduced in 1997 to offer two-year M.Phil. following modern American credit hour and semester system including course work, two-month internship and thesis guided by supervisor. The M.Phil. is an interdisciplinary degree which is intensive enough to help the students to pursue Ph.D. courses. The course is open to faculty members who are employed at universities and colleges.Four more institutes — the Institute of Liberation and Bangladesh Studies (ILBS), Institutes of National Science (INS), Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), and Institute of Business and Management Studies (IBMS) — have all the formalities complete toward their constitutions and are soon to provide higher courses related to science, needs of life, and national heritage.

• Applicants must be a citizen of Bangladesh who passed SSC or equivalent in 2015 or 2016 and HSC or equivalent (with Physics, Chemistry & Biology) in 2017 or 2018
• Applicants who passed SSC before 2015, they are not eligible for application
• For the general candidates must have minimum total GPA 9.0 in SSC and HSC or equivalent, minimum GPA 3.5 in each of SSC and HSC in Bangladesh & Foreign Education Program.
• For the all tribal candidates and non-tribal candidates of Chittagong Hill Tracts districts total GPA 7.0 in SSC and HSC or equivalent. Application is not acceptable if applicants get bellow GPA 3.00 individually, the rule is also for foreign students who want to take admission in Private Medical/ Dental Colleges.
• For all type of candidates GP 3.5 in Biology in HSC level.
